Being a professional photographer, it’s absolutely imperative that the imagery on David’s website is of the highest quality possible. But these high resolutions, data-heavy files are liable to slow the page loads down to a crawl. We’re talking nearly 3GBs of site assets! It seems that beauty really does come at a price.

David reached out to us to see if we could streamline his website’s loading speed and that’s exactly what we did. We were able to shave his homepage loading time down from 3.1 seconds to 1.3 seconds. But we weren’t finished there: we managed to get his portfolio page loading in a mere 1.3 seconds – down from 5.9 seconds!

You know what they say: a magician never reveals his tricks. This, however, was not magic. It was a simple case of breaking down the problem and working out a solution.

Here was our process:

  1. Moved the website to a WordPress specialized hosting at Kinsta, including their CDN. (Read more about our partnership )
  2. Merged or removed unnecessary assets to reduce the number of asset requests.
  3. Implemented an image functionality to load the image size based on the needed image dimension.

Website speed is one of the factors that Google takes into consideration when ranking sites. A low performing website has poor user experience and as a result, gains less promotion in search results.

The latest research tells us that if your website doesn’t load within 2 seconds, the visitor will click to another page. Guess David doesn’t need to worry about that anymore.
